Since 2004, the Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain (DSWA) has offered an accredited Craft Certification Scheme, in conjunction with Lantra Awards. This gives trainees the opportunity to gain a vocational qualification in dry stone walling at Level 1 (Initial), Level 2 (Intermediate) or Level 3 (Advanced).
These qualifications are also available through the wider DSWA branch network and a number of colleges throughout the country.
Here in Dorset, we regularly run Level 1 (Initial) and Level 2 (Intermediate) assessments and preparation sessions. Our assessments are held in August or early September.
We are planning to open a new site for certification during 2027. The intention is to develop this into a centre of excellence that can be used for all 3 levels and for other training and practice courses. We will provide more information on this as our plans develop.
